Community News: Faculty Of Law Students DECIDES
The Faculty of Law Students Society, University of Ibadan held their elections on Wednesday, the 22nd of June, 2016. The elections, which had been earlier slated for the month of May, 2016 was initially postponed indefinitely due to the students protest that eventually resulted in a six weeks break.
On confirmation of the resumption, the Law Students Electoral Committee announced the 21st of June as the Manifesto Night and the 22nd of June as elections.
Majority of the positions available such as the office of the Vice-President, the Social Secretary, the Financial Secretary, the Sport Secretary, went uncontested. However, the positions of the President amongst others were keenly contested.
Aspirants for the position of President were Miss Agboro Gift, former Students Union Vice Presidential Aspirant and Mr. Oladejo Abdul-Azeez, a one time president of Junior Chambers International(JCI), U.I Chapter.
Mr. Abdul-Azeez emerged the President with 352 votes while Miss Gift had 167 votes. It has been garnered from various quarters that a large number of Law students still feel disgruntled at Miss Gift's backing down from the SU race without tenable reasons and thus, denied her the opportunity to serve them as the LSS President.
The results of the election for other positions are below:
-Vice President - Afolasade Banjo: 442 votes
-General Secretary -
Bamisile Damilola: 216 votes
Obua J.P- 296 votes
-Public Relations Officer -
Akinkuolie Precious: 288 votes
Giwa Abubakar: 215 votes
-Social Secretary - Olagunju Faridah: 468 votes
-Financial Secretary- Olatunbosun Olasubomi: 41 votes
-Sport Secretary - Oyesina Olusegun: 480 votes
-Assistant Gen Sec - Aderibigbe Simon John (Osanyin): 265 votes
Theophilus: 239 votes.
Miss Olagunju Faridah, Miss Olatunbosun Olasubomi, Miss Banjo Afolashade and Mr Oyesina Olusegun were elected by a two third majority.
